Creating a channel for tandem playback?

I know this is requested on "Features Requested", but would it be possible to create a channel that could do this? I don't have much experience in coding, but after searching around I see that you can get the current "Now Playing" sessions and the viewOffset from the API. Maybe one person starts the movie, pauses, and the other people use the channel to sync to the position of the first and there could be a united play/pause button that anyone could press.
Thoughts?
