PLEX is now a featured ROKU channel!! I noticed this today while perusing its channel store. The combination of Plex + Roku is very powerful: the following channels are completely free:
ROKU Channels
- Crackle
- Youtube
- Dailymotion
- A&E
- History
- Lifetime
- Smithsonian
- SyFy
- FOX
- FOX News
- PBS
- PBS Kids
- Disney
PLEX Channels
- A&E
- ABC
- CBS
- CMT
- Crackle
- Dailymotion
- Discovery Networks
- History
- Khan Academy
- MTV
- NASA
- National Geogrpahic
- NBC
- PBS
- Sesame Street
- Southpark
- Spike
- SyFy
- TheCW
- Yahoo Screen
- Youtube
And this is not even a complete list of all the quality channels available via the combined platforms. There is some overlap, as you see, and this is a good thing! For example, the Plex version of PBS allows me to watch the "Empires" series, which is available at PBS.org but is not on the official Roku channel. Likewise, the Roku's SyFy channel is all clips: no full episodes. But the free full episodes which are available at SyFy.com *are* able to be watched via Plex.
The "Holy Grail" is a single device or program which does everything, and at this time such does not exist. The Roku + Plex is a marriage made in cyber-heaven which does almost everything I want or need it to do!
