Reddit Videos
Github - Development
This is an official channel with plex and should be installed as such.
This plugin allows you to browse and watch videos linked to by users of reddit.com.
Current Features
Manually enter any subreddit
Any manually entered subreddit will let you browse any subreddit of your choosing, but they are not stored like those from "Custom Favorites."
List all domains
This will list all the most popular videos from either youtube.com or vimeo.com, regardless of what subreddit they come from. This will provide one of the most varied viewpoints for video watching.
Subreddit Discovery
I maintain a multireddit of some of the most popular video subreddits on reddit. You can browse through the list of subreddits to find subreddits you may not have known about.
Custom Favorites
Custom Favorites allows you to add and delete subreddits of your choosing that will be stored in this menu. They can be entered on most clients, though I believe you cannot enter them on the web interface.
Sorting
By default, most plugins for reddit just allowed you to browse the "hot" sorting. With my channel, you can browse by hot, new, and top. Top includes the top videos for the hour, day, week, month, year, and all time.
Enter your own Multireddit (Added 3/31/2014)
Store Custom Multireddits.
A multireddit is a custom collection of subreddits. "Subreddit Discovery" and "Gaming Subreddits" in this channel are just multireddits that I maintain on reddit. If you create your own multireddit on reddit or find one that someone else has created that you like, you can now store those multireddits in the channel. This makes it very easy to maintain not only your favorite subreddits while browsing reddit, but to also create categories for multireddits. Like a bunch of music subreddits? Make a multireddit of them and then add it to the channel. To add a multireddit, just remember the username of the person who created the multireddit and the multireddit's name itself. You enter them by separating them with a comma, e.g., seagullcanfly, gamingvideos
How to create a multireddit
-
Make sure any multireddit you create is public!
-
Follow the steps here first and make sure any multireddit you create is public.
-
A multireddit url looks like this reddit.com/user/efidol/m/cordfreetv . This multireddit was created by efidol and is named cordfreetv. If you wanted to use his multireddit, you'd only have to remember his username and the name of the multireddit.
-
With the username and the multireddit name memorized, go to the Reddit Videos channel and go to the "Enter a multireddit" menu option. When entering, just separate the username and multireddit name with a comma. E.g., "efidol, cordfreetv" with no quotation marks.
-
If it was your own multireddit, you would just use your username and your multireddit name. Anytime you find a subreddit you like, just add it to one of the multireddits you've created and added to Plex.
Searches text posts (Added 3/31/2014)
Certain subreddits like r/frisson or r/footballhighlights only let people post text posts. The channel now searches for links first, and if it finds none, quickly searches for any youtube links mentioned in the original post. Plans to include vimeo support will likely be worked on.
Customize the menus. (Added 3/31/2014)
If you don't find any particular menu useful for you, turn it off in preferences.
Customize the videos with upvotes and comments. (Added 4/15/2014)
In preferences, you can enable the ability to view comments for a video or have the title of the video preceded by its upvote count. Viewing comments is set to false by default because I'm not crazy about the thumbnails and it stops the ability to automatically playlist videos on some clients. However, I've always wanted to be able to view comments on a reddit addon because it can give context to a video.
